A WISH, INC. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Gamma Mu Omega Chapter

Host 2020 Virtual Debutante Cotillion 

On December 30, 2020, A WISH, Incorporated, in partnership with Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated® Gamma Mu Omega Chapter, hosted its 2020 Virtual Debutante Cotillion with the theme -- "Embracing Our Future: Cultivating Excellence."  The virtual presentation was hosted as a watch party event on Gamma Mu Omega's Facebook and YouTube pages. 

During the virtual affair, Miss Taylor Culver was announced as Miss Debutante 2020.  Miss Amariah Hines was awarded the program's scholarship for a graduating senior and was also the recipient of the Chairman's Award for leadership.

A WISH, INC. PARTNERS WITH LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS, SERVICE GROUPS TO PROVIDE FOOD AND ESSENTIALS TO MORE THAN 600 FAMILIES

On October 29, 2020, A WISH, Incorporated presented the MISSION POSSIBLE: WE CARE Mobile Food Drive at New Life Church Ministries in Daytona Beach.  Hosted in collaboration with the Rose Marie Bryon Children’s Center, Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, and New Life Ministries, the drive provided food and essentials to more than 600 local families.

 

“A WISH is proud to have been able to assist so many local families with this food drive.  We realize that many families in our community are struggling to provide for their most basic needs, especially in the midst of the global pandemic,” says Barbara Gamble, director of operations for A WISH, INC.  She adds, “We would like to thank all of the local organizations that collaborated with us to make this food drive a success, allowing us to positively impact so many families.” 

 

Approximately 20,000 pounds of food and essentials were disseminated during the drive, including milk, meat, produce and non-perishable foods, as well as hand sanitizer and masks. 

 

Volunteers for the event included representatives from A WISH, New Life Ministries and the local chapters of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.; Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.; and National Hook-Up of Black Women.

A WISH, INC. Donates PPE Packages to Daytona Beach Housing Authority Communities

On Friday, September 11, 2020, A WISH, INC. presented 450 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) packages to four Daytona Beach Housing Authority communities as part of the organization's "CARES" project.  The more than 400 family units in those communities, which include: Pine Haven, Lakeside Village, Village of Halifax and Village of Halifax II, received PPE packages containing two masks, hand sanitizer, surface cleaner, a bar of soap and tissues, along with informational pamphlets on how to protect against the spread of COVID-19 and disaster preparedness.  The PPE packages were provided by Volusia County Emergency Management.  Representatives from the local chapters of Omega Psi Phi, Kappa Alpha Psi and Alpha Phi Alpha fraternities collaborated with A WISH, Inc. to procure and deliver the packages.
